The ultimate goal for ICE's Distance Education website is twofold:
1. To create a portal for instructors to gather materials for conducting these programs on their own
2. To create instructional materials for students learning on their own
In order to accomplish this, the site has main areas for instructors (1) and students (2) as well as a place for feedback to the site developers. The instructor area holds grading rubrics, tests for students, and lesson plans as tools for instructors to use. The student area is self-quizzes, step by step instructions for projects, and single tutorials.
The current plan has instructional materials for Alice, Scratch, Lego Mindstorms NXT, Pleo dinosaurs, and PicoCrickets, but the architecture for the website should allow for growth into other introductory programming applications and new functionality. Also eventually, add content areas to the site where users of the site can edit, add, and share their own things.
